Larry Fairweather's 1985 Mustang GT

1985 GT Cobra
2nd Owner

Engine:

Original 302 HO, completely rebuilt by Engine Machine Shop in 2004 with some engine modifications.
E303 Cam with roller lifters and 1.7 Aluminum Roller Rockers. 10.5:1 Compression. "Floated the Pistons" to decrease friction And increase HP.

Original base HP was 210...after rebuild and engine mods, computer DYNO puts it at 372 HP to the crank Which means roughly 306 HP to the rear wheels.

Exhaust:

Long tube BBK headers, BBK H-Pipe, Dynomax mufflers.

Rear-end:

Replaced the original 7.5 rear-end with one from a 1991. It is an 8.8 Posi-trac with 3.55 gears.
Also upgraded the upper and lower control arms to Lakewoods and installed urethane bushings.
A MAC differential cover finishes everything off.

Chassis:

Kenny Brown strut tower engine brace and a sub-frame connector by Competition Engineering

Body & Paint:

Extensive bodywork (from the floor to the roof) was completed in March of 2005. Car became Wood Motors winter Project and show case vehicle. Painted by Troy Borland of Wood Motors with Ford's new 2005 Black. Over $12,000 In labour, parts and materials went into the body restoration.

Future Projects:

Top of the list is brakes. Even with the original 210 HP motor, the '85 Mustang was weak in the braking department.
Now with the near doubling of horsepower, I really don't have the stopping power. Saving to purchase the Ford Racing M2300K complete brake kit. This would bring the car up to the 1993 Cobra R specs. 13" Rotors (front), 12" Rotors (rear), with the upgrade to the stronger 31 spline axles and to the 5 bolt pattern rims. Looks like I'll be saving for a couple of years before this project happens.
